Varieties of Livery golf events

Enhancing Fellowship and Philanthropy through golf

Would you like to know more about Livery golf events?

Open events

Several Livery Companies e.g. Horners, World Traders, Pewterers, Marketors, Light Mongers, organise golf events with the intention that multiple Livery Companies will enter a team. In addition, there are some where the organiser role rotates e.g. Newsom Smith, Ray Jeffs. In SMiGs jargon all these are known as ‘Open’ events.

Guest events

A lot of Livery Companies book venues with the aim of filling available tee times from amongst their own Livery but fall short of numbers.  One of the objectives of SMiGS is to enable organisers to fill up vacancies by posting an item on the SMiGS WhatsApp Events Group and putting details on an events platform called SPOND.  That information is then circulated to the golfers of the various Liveries by the SMiGS Coordinators, Organisers and Points of Contact who will be given further details about how SPOND can help facilitate their golf days. In SMiGS jargon these are known as ‘Guest’ events.

Closed events

Many Livery Companies play matches against each other; some Livery Companies have “industry” (Brewers, Furniture Makers) events; some Livery Companies have events which are exclusive either to a single Livery or a Group of Liveries. In SMiGS jargon these are known as “closed events”.
